July is always a very busy month around our house. The yard and garden are in full growth and require more of our time and attention. We haven't been getting a lot of rain lately so we have had to water the lawn more than I like. The indoors need extra attention also. When the air conditioning is on, the closed up house can really lower the air quality. I find that we have to dust twice as often and the air filters need changed more often. This most likely is due to the dog and cat shedding and the dirt the kids drag in. The Furminator and Dyson do help with the pets but since it is too hot outside for them so they stay indoors more. I hope you are all having a great summer and on to July's most popular posts.

Eco-Cleaning Weekly Recap

By using ordinary household items to clean you can make a difference to our environment. Vinegar, baking soda, borax and salt can do wonders around you house for a much lower cost than the toxic commercial cleaners. Here are the posts we published this week, and don't forget to look at our homemade cleaners for even more green cleaning ideas.

Cleaning 101 Weekly Recap

This week we posts a lot about cleaning basics. It is always a good idea to remember the basics when you clean. Things like blotting from the outside of a stain and working your way into the middle in a spiral can be the difference between an easy cleaning job and a nightmare.

Are we destroying our environment and poisoning our families by cleaning our houses?

Most of the cleaning products on the market today contain toxic chemicals. It is estimated that the average U.S. house has over 60 toxic chemicals in it. Over 3 million people are poisoned by household cleaning products each year in the U.S.; the majority are children under 6. The average American home's air also has chemical levels 70 times greater than outdoor air. Have you thought about what this might do to your heath, and the heath of your family?

In addition to polluting our homes, what is the manufacture of these chemicals doing to our environment? How are these products made? What kind of waste is produced in their manufacture and use? All of these questions are hard to answer, and large corporations don't want us to know.

At Chester's Clean House we have been posting tips to help you make your own household cleaners that are safer for the environment, get the job done as well as the toxic versions, and will save you time and money. We want to help the environment and spread the word of the wonders of vinegar, baking soda, and borax and we need your help.
