Removing Blood From Carpet and Microfiber

The other day I stubbed my toe and it bleed pretty good. In the process of getting my toe to stop bleeding I got blood all over our carpet and microfiber couch. I immediately got some shaving cream and sprayed the affected areas and finished with a clean cloth and water. The next day I was able to find a little more blood that I had missed. On the carpet I used hydrogen peroxide and water to removed the remaining blood, but I was worried that the hydrogen peroxide might fade the couch. I used meat tenderizer and water on the microfiber. After it dried I vacuumed the area well and used a baby wipe to remove the watermarks that were left. When cleaning up blood, remember that it is a protein based stain and work accordingly with the limitations of the soiled surface.

Shaving Cream For Ink Stain Removal

If you have ever left a wet newspaper on any surface you know how difficult it is to remove the ink stains. Quick tip, use foaming shaving cream. Just spray it on the surface and let it work for a few minutes. Shaving cream contains alcohol and the foaming action works it into the stain. Gel shaving creams do not work. Make sure to do a test in an inconspicuous spot to insure that the surface that you are cleaning will not discolor from the shaving cream. Wipe off and the stain should be wiped out! I have used this tip on a number of stains including the ink transfer from pastic grocery bags and it works great.

Stop Your Glasses From Fogging Up

This time of year I have to contend with the most annoying thing, fogged glasses. When the humidity gets high, every time I get out of my car or walk outside my glasses fog up. I either have to a wait a minute to see or wipe off my glasses. For some reason this really bothers me, but not any longer. Spray your glasses with foaming shaving cream and wipe them off with a soft cloth. I usually use a microfiber cloth, but any soft cloth that won't scratch your glasses will work. I try to do this every other week. I don't have any special coatings on my glasses but if you do check with store you bought your glasses from to be sure the shaving cream won't harm the optical coating. If you have mirrors in your bathroom that fog up, you can use shaving cream on them also.

Homemade vomit cleaner for carpets and upholstery

The most important thing with cleaning vomit is removing it as fast as possible. The acidic nature of bile can stain fabrics very quickly. This is especially true depending on what was just eaten. A good general vomit cleaner is 1 tablespoon of borax and 3 cups of water. Remove as much of the solid matter using a spoon or paper towel. Use a sponge to wipe the area with the mixture then blot dry with a clean cloth. The borax will neutralize the smell of the vomit. On microfiber there may be water stains left behind, you can use a baby wipe to gently rub the area to remove the water stain. On carpet if there is any stain left you can use foaming shaving cream and a sponge and water to clean the effected area.
