Safer Way to Clean Up After Painting

After painting anything, you inevitably get paint on your hands. Instead of using paint thinner or a strong chemical soap to get it off, use vegetable oil. It works just as well and is nontoxic which is healthier for you and the environment.

Permanent Bar Code Stickers?

I love the variety of picture frames out there as anyone who has visited my home can attest, but I do not like getting the bar code stickers that are always stuck on the glass. There are several products on the market to de-stick such things, but none of them seem to work very well for me. What works the best for me is plain old vegetable oil and the gentle scrubbing of an old toothbrush. After the sticker and its gluey remnants have come loose, rinse the glass in water with a small quantity of dish soap.

Removing Watermarks From Wood Furniture

Here are three tips to help you remove watermarks from wood furniture:

1. Mix vegetable oil and salt into a paste. Apply paste to marks and let stand for about 20 minutes. Wipe off the past with a dry cloth and polish with your favorite wood polish.


2. Rub stain gently with toothpaste and baking soda. I like to use Arm & Hammer toothpaste as it already has baking soda in it.


3. Cover watermark with mayonnaise. Let stand for 12 hours. Wipe off the mayonnaise with a clean cloth and polish with your favorite wood polish.
