When our dog was a puppy she always laid behind my chair and keep trying to chew on an electric cord. We tried many methods to keep her from chewing on the cord, but liquid laundry detergent was the best. Just coat the cord with a small amount of liquid laundry detergent by placing a small amount onto a rag and dragging the cord through the folded rage. Your dog or cat should no longer be interested in the cord because the detergent tastes bad. This also worked on the wooden chair rungs on our kitchen table chairs.
