- Take about 1 cup of baking soda and sprinkle it down the drain. If the drain is really clogged and the water won't go down, use a full box of baking soda.
- Pour 2 cups of white vinegar down the drain. If the drain still has water in it use 4 cups of white vinegar.
- The vinegar and baking soda will react and start to bubble. This will help loosen the clog in the drain making the next step much easier.
- Plunge the drain with a plunger. Remember to slowly push down on the plunger and use more force to pull on the up stroke. Pushing too hard will compact the clog even more.
- Repeat if the clog won't clear in about 5 strokes.
If you can't get the clog out with this method, you have a serious clog. Call a plumber. This happened to me once when a steel wool scouring pad got down the drain. That was one for the experts!
